The Jean Hastings Memorial Garden was built in 2021 as yet another quiet place for reflection at Quiet Waters Ranch – the home base for all of our outdoor experiences. Honor a friend or loved one while helping Warriors find peace at Quiet Waters Ranch by donating to this project.

All funds raised in excess of the cost of the installation of the Jean Hastings Memorial Garden will be released from any restrictions and considered unrestricted donations, fueling WQW’s mission.

How to Support the Jean Hastings Memorial Garden

There are two ways you contribute to the Garden:
purchase a personalized basalt paver to be installed summer of 2023
or make a donation online or by mail.

Purchase a Basalt Paver

Leave an everlasting legacy in the Garden through the purchase of an inscribed basalt paver. Each basalt paver comes with a customizable option in which you can honor someone’s military service, announce an achievement, recognize a WQW volunteer or friend, or share a favorite phrase or quote.

In addition to making an investment in WQW’s therapeutic recreational programs, every donation and purchase made is tax-deductible. Participation in WQW programs is 100% free for Warriors and their loved ones. Your support of this Garden makes this possible.

Construction Timeline of the Jean Hastings Memorial Garden

The garden was constructed in June 2021 at Quiet Waters Ranch. Pavers will be installed in the summer of 2023. All purchases of basalt pavers and benches will come with a certificate and an invitation to attend the 2023 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony or Open House.

Who Was Jean Hastings?

Jean Hastings is the beloved wife of WQW’s founder Col. Eric Hastings, USMC (Ret.). Jean was instrumental in the founding of WQW, was WQW’s first donor, and started the “Mom” volunteer program.

While on a fishing trip in Northern Canada, Jean Hastings and her husband Eric envisioned Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation (WQW) in September 2006. As a proud and devoted Marine wife and mother of two Marines, Jean exemplified the spirit of service. She was the first donor to WQW — contributing $10,000 to launch our mission while providing Eric with the emotional support to overcome the myriad of obstacles that stood in his way. She inspired and founded the “Volunteer Moms” program, ensuring every Warrior is able to nourish their body and soul by breaking bread over home-cooked meals that are always made with love. She set the standard for Gold Standard Programs and will forever be remembered as a strong, independent servant with an infectious laugh and loving ways.

When Eric shared that his wife Jean would be entering hospice care after a courageous five-year battle against pancreatic cancer, the WQW community knew we needed to do something to memorialize Jean while also providing a space for respite for Warriors at Quiet Waters Ranch.

That’s how the Jean Hastings Memorial Garden came to fruition. This is a dedication to the beautiful life of Jean Hastings, but it’s also a new place for peace, tranquility, and connection.
