Join WQW at the Texas Fly Fishing Festival

12/19/2023

Are you ready for a weekend filled with the best of fly fishing and craft beer in the Lone Star State? Warriors & Quiet Waters (WQW) is thrilled to announce its participation in the Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival, taking place on February 23rd and 24th. The festival promises an exciting blend of fly fishing expertise, hands-on activities, and the finest microbrews Texas has to offer.

WQW Ambassadors at the Festival

WQW is excited to have alumni ambassador Nathan Ellis manning the WQW booth, representing WQW, and sharing his experiences and our mission with attendees. Nathan has participated in several WQW programs, and we are so excited that he will be attending the event to share his insights!

Explore the World of Fly Fishing

At this event, attendees will have the opportunity to explore a diverse array of fly fishing manufacturers, attend lectures on various techniques, and dive into topics of interest for fly anglers of all levels. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a novice, the Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival is the perfect place to connect with nationally renowned fly fishing authors, professional guides, expert casters, custom bamboo rodmakers, and fly tyers.

A Family-Friendly Event

The festival is designed to be family-friendly, welcoming everyone to experience the nuances of the sport of fly fishing. If you're new to fly fishing, fear not! Wander the festival grounds, try fishing from a kayak, attend casting or fly tying demonstrations, and even participate in classes to hone your skills.

Beyond the Cast: Women's Fly Fishing Symposium

This year, the Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival introduces the "Beyond the Cast Women’s Fly Fishing Symposium." This pioneering event is the first of its kind in Texas, offering beginner to intermediate fly-fishing programming tailored specifically for women and taught by experts from around the country.

"We’ve provided numerous introductory casting and ‘Fly Fishing 101 style classes over the years,” says Festival Director Beau Beasley, “and those classes have been enormously successful. ‘Beyond the Cast’ is different. What we have here is a program by and for women, with a focus on topics that women have told us they’re looking for and haven’t found elsewhere.”

Maria Stepg
Reunion at the Symposium

We have immense pride in the connections made through our programs, and Maria and Stephanie’s friendship is an excellent example of the lasting connections formed at WQW. Both female Army veterans, Stephanie and Maria, met on an FX in 2019 and have kept in touch ever since. Thanks to the support of an anonymous supporter, Maria and Stephanie were generously given the opportunity to attend the Women’s Fly Fishing Symposium, a chance for them to connect once again, celebrating the sport that first sparked their friendship five years ago. In addition to attending the symposium, they were provided VIP tickets to participate in the festival’s afterparty, allowing them to meet with some of the event's prestigious exhibitors and attendees.

“I am so thankful that we reconnected," says Stephanie. "She is an important part of my life. I am super excited for the Fly Fishing event and to experience it with Maria. We only live two and a half hours away from each other, but it is a lot more difficult to get together than you would think. I am so happy to spend the weekend with her and just catch up. We need some sister time and some stress-free fun.”
